Does Instagram tell you who clicks the link in your bio?

No. Instagram doesn't show which people tapped the link in your bio. Professional (Business or Creator) accounts can see a count of taps, labeled External link taps, in Insights under profile activity. Personal accounts don't get Insights. To see which of your links people click, use a link-in-bio page with per-link click counts. Those tools show totals, not names.

The short answer

Instagram reports how often profile links are tapped, not who tapped them. If you run a Business or Creator account, you may see a total labeled something like External link taps inside account Insights. That number covers taps on links that open outside Instagram, including the website field on your profile. It does not list usernames, and it does not replace per-button analytics on a separate link page.

Personal accounts do not receive the same account-level Insights. If you only need to publish a URL, start with the guide to add an Instagram bio link. This page focuses on what Instagram does and does not show after the link is live.

Where to find external link taps in Instagram Insights

Paths and labels change, but the flow is usually similar on the Instagram mobile app:

  1. Open Profile from the bottom navigation or your profile picture.
  2. If you have a professional account, open the Professional dashboard or Insights entry from your profile. Personal accounts may see a different dashboard with fewer metrics.
  3. Choose a date range that matches the period you want to review.
  4. Look for profile activity or a similar overview of actions on your profile.
  5. Find a count that may appear as External link taps (or wording close to it). That metric reflects taps on outbound profile links, not visits to individual destinations after the tap.

Instagram documents account insights in its Help Center. If your app shows different menu names, use that documentation as the source of truth rather than this summary.

Does someone know if you click their bio link?

Instagram does not show link tappers' names in Insights. Creators with professional accounts may notice that their external link tap count went up, but they cannot open a list of accounts that clicked. The same aggregate limit applies when you tap someone else's profile link: your username is not surfaced as a named click in their analytics.

Track clicks per link with a link-in-bio page

Instagram combines outbound profile taps into one Insights metric. When you send visitors through a link in bio page, each destination on that page can earn its own click count. That is how you learn which offer, shop or article button performs best, even though you still only see totals rather than identities.

NexLink separates page views from link clicks. Free currently includes seven-day reporting with click-through rate, referrer, device and country breakdowns, plus CSV and JSON export. Pro extends the history window. Referrer data can be missing when an app or browser omits it, so a report cannot tie every click to Instagram or name the visitor. Read link in bio analytics on NexLink for what each measure means before you change your page layout.

A free NexLink page can hold many destinations behind one bio address. Pair it with the Instagram setup guide, browse example layouts, or compare Linktree alternatives if you are choosing a tool.

Using UTM tags

UTM parameters are short tags appended to a URL so your shop, newsletter tool or site analytics can group traffic by campaign. They do not make Instagram reveal individual tappers. They can still help when Instagram sends someone to one landing page and you want that destination's analytics to label the visit. Keep labels consistent and avoid sharing raw export files that contain sensitive business data.

Yes, if you use a professional account (Business or Creator). In account Insights, profile activity may include a metric labeled External link taps that counts taps on links that leave Instagram, including bio website links.

Instagram does not list link tappers by name in Insights. The platform's reporting focuses on aggregate counts rather than identifying each visitor who opened a profile link.

Personal accounts do not get full account Insights. The metric may also depend on your date range, account type, region and how much profile activity you had. Menu labels and availability can change between app versions.

Instagram's external link taps metric combines taps across your profile links. To compare destinations, use a link-in-bio page with per-link click counts, such as NexLink, and review which buttons visitors choose.

NexLink reports page views and link clicks with referrer, device and country breakdowns. Those are aggregate measures. NexLink does not identify an individual visitor or reveal their Instagram username.
